Today, with the savings rate so low, Congress has relaxed the rules to allow deductions for contributions to both defined benefit and profit sharing plans.  A pension (defined benefit) plan is the only qualified retirement plan that will allow a business owner to contribute and deduct more than $49,000 in 2010.

Mr. Paleveda is one of the leading speakers in the United States in the area of Tax Law and Tax Planning. He has spent over 25 years in the field of tax planning. His clients included the Coca-Cola family and the founder of Dunkin Donuts. In 2001 he saw changes in the tax law (EGTRRA) that encouraged tax savings through the funding of defined benefit pension plans. After receiving a B.A. from the University of South Florida in 1977, an M.B.A. degree from the University of South Florida in 1979, a J.D. from the University of Miami in 1982 and an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Denver in 1983, he did post-graduate work at Oxford University in England and Harvard University in the United States. Mr. Paleveda is a former adjunct professor at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta for the Certified Financial Planning program and in 2009 was appointed to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court.
